Don’t know where to head off for your honeymoon destination ? Tired of all clichee resorts where you just might run into everyone from your hometown? Search no more. Pack a suitcase, and fly off to beautiful Berlin
Berlin, originally split into the East and the West, offers something for everyone. If you’re the high end type that likes to wine and dine along side some of the city’s elite, stick to the West Side. You can book a room at the Hotel Adlon Kimpinski, where you just might run into your favorite celebrity and stroll the Western streets where you will be mesmerized by the elegance, cleanliness, and organization of its ins and outs. Head down for lunch or dinner at the Grill Royal, located in the heart of the city, where you just might run into George Clooney and be sure to order their perfectly grilled steak. At night, head down to PURO Sky Lounge for a night that will not disappoint, or head down to Cookies on Berlin’s elite Mitte street but be sure to act like a local and not a tourist.
If you’re the out-going artsy type that would like to explore the city one stop at a time; head down to the East Side. I visited a place called Michel Burger which could definitely be a cool place to stay. The lobby is a cafe decorated with books, suitcases, and magazines and the probability of starting a conversation with the stranger reading a book next to you is pretty high.
Stroll down a few streets after Michel burger and you’ll find yourself at Berlin’s must eat Burger hot spot “Burgermeister”, located under the U-Bahn. Hot Spot might be an overstatement because this place is as small as a cubicle but don’t underestimate their delicious burgers and fries that has people from all over the city waiting in line.
Known for it’s underground party scene, a place to see is Kater Holzing; where you can keep the party going till the next day. Also, home to some of the best techno beats, WaterGate is located by the river, with floor to ceiling glass windows, and a beautiful panoramic view of the Spree; this is definitely a must-see.
Whether you’re a film enthusiast or a socialite, some things are mandatory to do and see when in Berlin:
- Brandenburg Gate that resembles the German victory, not once but twice. Makes for great pictures!
- Film Museum; that is home to some of the most ground breaking films in history
- Memorial of the Berlin Wall where you can purchase an actual piece of the wall and tour a small museum that would give you better knowledge of its history
- Check Point Charlie where you can get your passport stamped for just a few Euros
- Holocaust Memorial; walking through this historical landmark will send shivers through your spine.
To sum up, Berlin is a great way to kick off the start of your new married-life together. No matter what your personalities are like, this city caters to you. It can be home to some of the best parties you’ve ever been to, just like it can be the city that amazes you with its history. Either way, if you’re heading there in the winter, be sure NOT to pack light.
